Plover Cove Hike and BBQ
This weekend eleven interns, including myself, did a hike out in the New Territories very close to the border with China.

The day started out a little bumpy when we found out there was no public transportation to the starting point of our hike, so we had to walk along a highway for an hour. We also encountered some trouble finding the trail head, but we bumped into two HUGE and beautiful waterfalls in our search. Finally, with them help of a nice BBQer and two Nepalese construction workers we got on the right track.
Once we got on the trail the hike was BEAUTIFUL. We saw incredible scenery, vegetation, and tons of wildlife including a lizard, a frog, cows, a dead snake, butterflies, eagles, thousands crabs, fish, clams, muscles, and oysters, We had some great conversations during our trek in the middle of nowhere and we really had the chance to get to know each other a little better.
The best part of the day was when we reached the small fishing village on the Pacific coast that turned out to be our end destination. At this point we were all REALLY tired (because of the extra hour of hiking at the beginning) and we were also worried about making it back in time to meet some other interns for a BBQ. We thought we saw our salvation when a small boat went past us on the beach. We all started waving and the boat changed its course and came over to see us. The driver and his wife agreed to take us back to are starting point (an hour away by boat) but they were charging a hefty sum. After a lot of negotiation we decided we had to walk back. Unbelievably, it took us about half the time to go back as it did for us to get there, even though it was uphill, because we were so tired and driven to get back.
At night we ended up back in Tei Mei Tuk (the end of the bus line in Hong Kong) where we met JJ, Stephanie, Landy and Stanley for a BBQ. JJ was nice enough to act as our shurpa and schlep all the BBQ stuff from the MC flat to the BBQ site (about 1 ½ hours away). This is definitely something we will have to do more often in Hong Kong. There are TONS of BBQ sites here, and not that many people who use them, we spent all night cooking meat, drinking beer and talking around the fire. It was the perfect end to the day.
